What's Your Movement Story?
Sep 21, 2024My work revolves around human movement patterns. Observing them, restoring them and training them. Anywhere I go I am always watching how people move. If you walk by me just know i am observing you from a functional lens. I am watching your gait, posture, arm swing, head positioning, shoulder height, pelvic alignment and much more. It gives me a sneak peek into your movement story.
Why do you move the way you do?
In brief, over time you have trained the motor control center of your brain called the cerebellum. Located in the back of the brain, it controls coordination of movement, posture, balance, motor learning, speech and more. The brain communicates with your muscles & your nervous system provides the link to relay these messages from the brain to other parts of your body.
Once upon a time, when we came into this world our neurodevelopmental sequence of movement began. Our cerebellum helped us learn and develop the abilities to roll, crawl, stand, walk and more.
Over time as we age, we lose the ability to move so effortlessly due to occupational hazards, lifestyle & diet choices, physical & emotional stress and so on. Our bodies develop compensation patterns to keep us going that ultimately lead to dysfunction & injury and the cycle continues.
Is it too late to move better?
It is never too late & I can meet you wherever you are.
You need to:
👉Ask for help
👉Understand that movement can be rebuilt & we can retrain the brain
👉Trust a new way of thinking, have your movement screened, assessed & tested properly.
👉Be ready to learn a lot! You are my student
👉Commit to the process
👉Do your homework
Together we will get to know each other, go over a thorough health history, assess your movement, test your patterns find out which patterns need work, develop a plan of action to correct and improve your movement quality. We will also go back to those neurodevelopmental sequences & rebuild a strong foundation to progress upon together.
